For the first time, the municipality of Tulum achieved the nomination of the World Travel Awards, WTA this 2023, endorsing its world tourism leadership, after being considered as the “Oscar” awards of the tourism sector.

The Mayan Train will pass through:

  • 50 archaeological zones open to the public.
  • 42 cenotes.
  • 10 museums.
  • 5 monuments registered as world heritage.
  • 2 zones of historical monuments.
  • Around 1,773 archaeological sites have been found in the works.

The benefit for Tulum 

Tulum, considered the center city of tourist activity in the Riviera Maya, is divided into the hotel zone, the town and the archaeological zone. And according to the Municipal Development Plan 2018-2021 of the municipality of this entity, the economically active population (EAP) is 59.7%, of which 29.7% are women and 70.3% are men. 

“Of the employed population, 28% is engaged in commerce, 10% is located in the tourism labor market, 9% in construction, 7% in transportation and the rest is engaged in other government activities, education, health and informal trade, but the vast majority is associated with tourism directly or indirectly,” refers the document

With these figures, it is deduced that the Tren Maya will mean a new model of inclusive tourism in Tulum, in which wealth will be “distributed in the community”, with the creation of jobs related to the construction of the railroad, in addition to the attention to tourists and with the new activities that will be developed around the services
